Promoting British Values

In November 2014, The Department for Education published guidance on promoting British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain.  These were:

·      democracy.

·      the rule of law.

·      individual liberty.

·      mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

At Treloweth, we were prepared for this guidance as we placed the core values at everything we do a Treloweth.  We do not explicitly teach ‘Modern British Values’ in standalone lessons as we felt this would diminish the impact and value of them.  We embed these through our PSHE curriculum, our diamond rules, through themed assemblies, the School Council and our 4 R’s.  We feel that this gives the children a real opportunity to apply and see the impact of these on real-life situations.
