Science

At Treloweth School, science lies at the heart of our commitment to developing pupils who are Curious, Kind and Connected. Through an inspiring and ambitious curriculum, we encourage children to ask questions, explore ideas and investigate the world around them, fostering a lifelong love of learning and discovery.

Being Curious means embracing enquiry and thinking like scientists. Our pupils engage in practical, hands-on investigations that develop their knowledge, skills and understanding across all areas of science. They are encouraged to challenge ideas, solve problems and develop the confidence to explore the unknown.

We are proud to work in partnership with The Ogden Trust, providing exciting opportunities for children to deepen their understanding of physics and STEM subjects. Through enrichment activities, collaborative projects and specialist experiences, pupils see how science connects to the wider world and future careers.

Being Kind means considering how science can improve lives and care for our planet. To support this, every year group takes part in an annual Sustainability Week, where pupils explore environmental challenges and discover how their actions can make a positive difference. Through activities such as energy-saving projects, wildlife conservation, recycling initiatives and outdoor learning, children develop a sense of responsibility for their local and global communities. We believe that empowering pupils to become environmentally aware today will help them become thoughtful and responsible citizens of tomorrow.

Being Connected means recognising the links between science, other areas of learning and the wider community. Our pupils work collaboratively, share ideas and celebrate achievements together. A highlight of our scientific calendar is our annual Science Fair, where children showcase their investigations and innovations to families, staff and visitors. This much-anticipated event celebrates creativity, enquiry and achievement while strengthening our connections with the wider community.

At Treloweth, we believe science is more than a subject. It is a gateway to understanding our world, inspiring our children to be Curious in their thinking, Kind in their actions and Connected to the world around them. Through high-quality teaching, exciting enrichment opportunities and meaningful real-world experiences, we equip every child with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in an ever-changing future.
